Wondering if anyone out there has had a problem not being able to move house due to attachment.  I have been in my house for 23 years and find it almost impossible to move.  It is a lovely home but too big for me now.  I have put it on the market several times but always get cold feet when a buyer looks interested - any suggestions would be appreciated.

I find myself more hesitant to move out of my current place due to the hassle of literally moving my things, though now that you mention I think I may have some emotional attachment to it

Five years ago we made a move from a house we had lived in for 18 years and a city we had lived in for more than 30 years. the main problem was deciding what stuff to move and what to dispose of. A year before we had bought our retirement home, but weren't ready to move for a variety of reasons, the main one of which was inertia.   Then our city was ravaged by a wildfire that destroyed 500 homes and came within a mile of us - the ash and smoke killed our garden and suddenly it was time to go.

You will know when it's time to move on, and I hope it doesn't take a disaster or near-disaster to trigger the decision.

I am exactly the same, which is strange considering that as a child we moved alot due to my dad's work. Our last house, we moved about 3 years ago, was an extremely difficult move for me.  We bought the plot, built the house, right next to the beach, my eldest was very small when we moved in and my second and third child were born there.  My dog that my husband bought me as a birthday gift before we were married and one of our cats were buried in the back garden. They were part of our initial move to the coast. The day the last items were loaded I climbed in my car and never looked back as we drove away.  I haven't been able to return there, even though I only live 15 minutes from there.  It just got too small, but I still miss the place.
