Subject:

My husband has seen the credit card bill

Some of you may remember that I spent to much money last month - I talked about it.  I got such good advice but of course I didn't have the courage to follow it. I didn't talk to my husbnad about what I had done and the credit card bill arrived this morning.

He is absolutely furious and he shouted at me so much that he reduced me to tears. I feel like such a helpless, powerless and useless little woman. And I feel very stupid indeed.

Hey abely,  I am very new around here but think that you must be having a lousy time and am thinking that you need to find something to focus on rather than dwell on how you and your husband has made you feel tonight.  Can you see the stars - or the sun?  Sometimes nature can be soothing and give you some space to heal up.

Hey unionmaid - and welcome to the wall, its good to have you here :)

That is also great advice - oh dear abely! Dont worry, I am sure he will get over it. BUt I do think you need to find something else in your life to focus on so you are less emotionally reliant on your hubs and also so you can boost your own confidence a bit and not have to spend so much to make yourself happy...

Do you have a job? Could you do some voluntary work, take up a new hobby or something that you can get passionate about??

Your brick says that your spending is out of control.  Has it been more than just this one incident?  Compulsive spending is an addiction, and you can get help.  Many more people have it than you realize, and most aren't brave like you to come forward.

Maybe this doesn't fit you, but I suffered with a form of OCD, and once I got help I felt so much better and I felt better around my family.  I wasn't ashamed anymore.

I looked this up and thought maybe it would help...  http://www.recoveryconnection.org/addiction/compulsive_shopping.php

My best wishes to you and situation

Thank you celticluck for your link and the rest of you for your support.

Would you believe that at my age, my husband has placed me on a strict spending limit. I now have a very small amount to spend on 'myself' and a house hold amount for the house.

I feel like a child.  I know i did wrong by spending a bit much but it wasn't huge, but I don't work and I do.  I work at home, I raise a family, I look after the house. And yet I can't buy even tiny luxuries. I WISH i had worked but then would my kids have turned out nromally.  OK I am cross. What a wasted life and I am being treated like a child. I feel like i am being given pocket moeny.
