"I want you to know, with everything I won't let this go. These words are my heart and soul"

    With Me - Sum 41

What quotes/words/sayings/lyrics get you through life - the good times, bad times, dark times, the confusions, the frustrations? Whatever the situation may be, what gets you through them?

I love words and yet what ultimately gets me through are the arms of my friends. So many times this last weekend i have just held and been held. From dancing wrapped up with a mate on friday night in my kitchen; to hugging with a friend who kind of disappeared from my life and then reappeared on saturday; to sitting holding the hand of my bestest friend love over dinner last night. So i guess it is touch and not words that get me through the highs and the lows.

There are many uplifting epithets, epigrams, epitaphs and the like. The difficulty is in finding one on request. Here are a few:

Time wounds all heels - Groucho Marx

    I never met a man I didn't like - Will Rogers

No problem is so big or so complicated that you can't run away from it - Charles M Schultz

And one to keep in mind always, but especially if you're feeling a little smug":

"If my theories are proved correct, the Germans will claim me for their own and the French will call me a citizen of the world. If I am proved wrong, the French will call me 'that Germen' and the Germans will call me 'that Jew.'" - Albert Einstein

    o0o0o I LOVE lyrics.

I could go down a list of music, and pick something uplifting from every single song.
However, as I sat here and began writing this,
My girlfriend sent me a text message.

It's 1:10 in the morning.. And she's at work.  And yet she still takes the time out to say "I love you with all my heart"

This is what gets me through.

Mine is: 'you can not plough a field by turning it over in your mind' - I am no farmer, but sometimes you have got to stop thinking, strategising or worrying and get on with it!!!

i always found comfort in the lyrics of "Hands" by Jewel

here are the first few lines that i find especially helpful:

If I could tell the world just one thing
It would be that we're all ok
And not to worry because worry is wasteful
and useless in times like these
I will not be made useless
I won't be idled with despair
I will gather myself around my faith

for light does the darkness most fear

I've thought about this alot and come to the terrible realisation that I don't have any words!! Nothing.  Arms would help, but I'm cold and distant and disconnected now.  There is one song that however, always has me in tears and honestly does it for me.  It's an OLD song by Trini Lopez "Smile" - "Smile though your heart is breaking; smile even though it's aching; even though a tear may be ever so near, if you smile through your fear and sorrow, smile and maybe tomorrow, you'll see the sun come shining through if you just smile and light up your face with gladness; hide every trace of sadness, etc..." This is me!

Isabella, Though your words made me very sad, I had this positive thought.  There is a saying 'Laugh and the world laughs with you:  weep and you weep alone'. If you keep smiling as Trini Lopez suggests, then it wont be long before someone wants to put his arms around you.

I tried to get a piece of a lyric but the more i looked the more entire songs i found that have helped me so i would just say : "Burn the witch" and "The lost art of keeping a secret" from Queens of the Stone age.
And something along the lines of : All that don't kill you will only make you stronger. That particular line always comes to mind when i remember things of the past.

The 'self talk' that gets me through the many challenges that just being alive brings is based onthe knowledge  that all thing will pass .

We cannot know the consequences of all our actions so be kind to yourself and others. And when things turn pear shape the self talk is like this : all things willl pass ,change is ongoing and "actions speak louder than words".Cheers Cate

Mine are 'Get amongst it'  - this is for whenever I feel nervous about entering a different space, be it a party of people I dont know, or a new culture or country... the second is 'what's the worst that can happen?' - often use this one when trying to work out whether to take a risk or not

    "Mum."

That is the word that keeps me here, that gets me through everything.  Those six folk that call me Mum; and still need me around.  If they were not there, calling to me that they need me; that they love me; I would be free.  So - a bittersweet word, but truly the anchor of my life.
