I cant seem to stop sleeping. I lost my job and am meant to be job hunting, but I cant seem to get out of bed. Ever. I can literally sleep all day, get up and have a bite to eat, then just go back to bed and sleep all night again. I dont even really want to have to shower, answer the phone. I feel like I have gone into hybernation - does anyone else ever have this? How can I boost my energy and get back into the real world? I cant be bothered to do anything, just sleep. ITs like I am the opposite of an insomniac - I cant seem to get awake!

    Hey SUS,

Yes I have been here - it is a picture of me when I am depressed but not dealing with anxiety and hiding away in a cave.  I generally just try to get into a bit of a routine but end up feeling like a dog circling around before the lie down.  I think I do it to escape how I am feeling.  I'm not comfortable with it at all.  Don't think I have much to offer except this and a genuine wish that you will shift out this soon.  :)  UM xx

I have to agree and say this sounds like depression to me too.  Only you know how deep this is because you may not want to go on medication but if you feel that you have gone past the self help stage then there is no shame in going to the doctor and asking for help.

I know this is boring but the best medicine is exercise.  Start very slowly a walk round the block and I would have to say talk to a friend or a relative because just talking about it can get stuff out of your system.  When you are feeling low you also eat the bickies and the crisps and this can sap you of energy.

You are not alone in this situation dont be overwhelmed by it.

Hello SU (is that alright with you?)

When did you lose your job? How long has this been going on?

I'm thinking we could use a depression check-list here too. I can't dig up one now - though I am sure there are plenty to be found online. Better yet to see your doctor, of-course. But if you just want to get some idea if there is something to be concerned about, you might like to have a look at some checklists on the net first. Everyone is an individual though and I think a person's starting point, personality style, etc are of importance too. That's where actually talking to someone is of more bennifit than an online self-assessment. Sometimes we are not good at identifying and evaluating our own health, physical or mental.

Let me know what you think, okay?

& do try to be up a little while, eat something like vegies or soup. while you are at it. Check your mailbox outside. (which means getting dressed - I know, sounds like a lot of work. Just see what you can manage.)

I'm sorry SU, that i didn't get back here yesterday. I was rather hoping some other people would express an interest for or against the idea of me posting a depression check-list. Then I got caught up in myself. I would like to hear more form you about how you are feeling, what's been going through your mind? Please keep talking, SU.

    (hugs) -Mebenji
