Subject:

What makes you want to howl?

I have just been watching an episode of HOuse in which a sick kid is eventually cured but just in time etc. from a very rare disease. Blame it on the hormones, but I howled. Really cried with proper sobbing.

When do you find yourself doing that and why? are they tears for a massive injustice or a realease of tension?

Hi Katy, I have to be honest at being amazed that no one had contributed a reply to your post after such a time. My instinct was where do we start? Gives me an opportunity to relate an episode of something recently that didnt exactly make me howl (unlike Brokeback Mountain) but profoundly effected me. Was in the supermarket doing the usual.  Became aware of a guy and his young son and how the father was patiently allowing the 'youngun' to help. At the checkout the father grasped the son so tight and held him so that it stopped me in my daily tracks. All consuming non questioning warmth and yes love. Perhaps it was the first time I understood the word.

On the way home I asked myself. Have I ever known love like that that? Will I ever know love like that? Could I have handled it? Will I ever get the chance? No is such a final word. But I do love a world that still leaves space for it.

     Take Care

     S76

    Hi Katy,

I am conscious that this is slipping but I am sorry that as a person who hasn't quite managed to get beyond just tears that howling feels like being asked to compete in the Olympics in rythmic gymnastics.  Would I like too - oh yes and one day I will - though I am a little fearful.

     Good luck with the responses.

    UM xx

My son leaves his first school tomorrow - he went there aged nearly three and he is now nearly eight - and I know that I will sob and snuffle my way through Speech Day and be a wreck by the time its all over.  What is it about 'end of eras' that make me so sad?

Oh Wolfie, you are a softie aren't you?  Maybe it is just that moment when it is apparent that the lad is growing up and onto another adventure.  These moments all feel like it means that there is just one small little step away from us.  Pack the tissues eh?  UM xx

Today - today makes we want to howl - a mixture of pleasure at seeing my children again and pain in that some things are not going quite so well as they should!

These days I just seem to cry at the drop of a hat - especially at some of the worst tv shows - it is getting to the point that I am embarassed about being tearful all the time at work.  People just stare at me.  Does this happen to anyone else or am I weird?

Not sure what makes me how now - many things in the past but I am in a dull time of my life - probably a little depressed and not feeling the highs or lows.  Perhaps seeing my friend's grief last week when she had just lost her mother.

What happens if you howl at an eclipse? Few things make me cry. I cannot remember the last time I cried.

Beauty, simple raw beauty. Its such an amazing thing to witness raw beauty. A few days ago i heard this story about this couple that just made me cry and well want to scream to the world, such a raw love between them it was truly an amazing thing to even hear. Makes me wish i could find this love and beauty, its truly an amazing thing. Beauty in general makes me want to scream to the world to see what i see. maybe one day we can all see it and get along.

When acts of kindness or bravery are recognised . The pure selflessness of these people always make me shed a tear.

I always howl if i see any injustice or cruelty to animals. Other than tears of frustration i often howl with anger and sadness about these things .
