Your brick story

My brother died at age 8. I was 10. I keep wondering why this still bothers me. I never told anyone. I still feel guilty about it.

Oh my. That is a hard one to carry let alone having to live without him in your life. I guess that all things that are incomplete in some way continue to bother us - and you must have been so devastated by his death. And when people die we tend to focus on what happened near the end - and find it harder to recapture what went before. I have no idea how long ago this was but i wonder what you would say to him now at the age you are and he would have been...... and i wonder what memories you carry of him and you before he got ill. I have not seen you here before Tink - thank you for sharing this. Take care! R

Dear Tink, what a terrible 'secret' you have.

Please try and think of your actions as a simply cry for help from a 10 year old - perhaps you were lacking attention from your mother - you didn't know that your brother would die and that he did has made your actions seem so much worse. Had he survived you would probably have forgotten all about it.

Thank you for sharing it with us - we all do things we later regret or wish we could change - you are not alone.

    Love Wolfie

you should forgive the ten year old, it wasn't the adult you are now who had those thoughts

I thought my brother was faking for ages, until he was diagnosed with clinical depression. We were too young to understand, tink, it's ok to be an ignorant child. You're clearly not an ignorant adult, and wolfie's right - you and your brother would be absolutely fine now if things hadn't happened the way they did. x x x
