Your brick story

I'm a young 62 and have been working in my present job (secretarial) for 18 years. Could have retired at 60 but I didn't want to and the firm I work for were happy to keep me anyway. I've been used to doing a lot of work and was relied on a great deal. Trouble is things have changed and I'm feeling like a lump of shit at the moment. Some of the work we do has been transferred to another firm and my workload has dropped off dramatically. I'd like another job as all I want is to be happy and useful in the last years of my working life and not feel like this. I now hate going in to work because of the way I feel. What I want to know is, is there a recruitment agency for people my age? It's only the way other firms view my age that is stopping me from trying for another job, plus the fact, if I'm honest, I'm scared to start again. Firm's see '62' and hold up their hands in horror. I'm young (my kids say I don't look older than 49). Has anyone got any suggestions?

Have you told your current employer that you would like more work? Maybe they just haven't thought of it - or don't know that you are feeling underutilised.

In terms of recruitment agencies - I don't know what country you are in but here in Australia you don't have to reveal your age as part of the interview process - Otherwise, I would get a list of the Recruitment Agencies and interview them - 62 is still young enough to contribute for many years.

UM - and welcome to the Wall we haven't met before
