Your brick story

It was after leaving one place and before moving to another - I lived here from the age of 5 to11. Never a local and always a townie.

there were only 360 people when I lived there because I remember the was a national census and we counted everyone who lived in town - we didn't need to leave the classroom to do it. The townies knew every house and how many people lived there.

The flood plains of the Condamine, the excitement of the crop dusters, the height of the silos, the open barren streets and the mulberry tree at the homestead - that was where I first felt okay.

It was so much of a town as a place - they call it a hamlet now - fancy name for a few old houses on a dusty plain.

I remember the surprise of realising that the cold core in my stomach had thawed.
