as light as an elephant

Your brick story

I have a painting by a local artist of an indian elephant swimming under the river - I can see the sun shining in the sky and elephant is gliding through the water. It represents what I feel is the ultimate hope - something that is so heavy and lumbering able to achieve emotional freedom. Swimming comes naturally to elephants but somewhere at sometime this was a lesson learnt by their forebears. Maybe as we learn to express ourselves emotionally we will be able to pass this on within our own species. Maybe what is a struggle now will be benefit for others and not just ourselves. This might be part of our evolution.

Thank you for this. An amazing image and metaphor. Courage often emerges from the most profound emotional pain - simply the ability to be with it, reflect on its source and recognise it is legitimate. Too often the focus is on removing pain - getting rid of that which hurts - rather than knowing the pain is valid and has to be lived not buried - for it otherwise becomes an emotional cancer.
I have watched elephants swim in India - you really captured something here UM. Rxx

I've only seen elephants swimming on tele - natural as it is for them, it still astounds me. Sometimes I think it is our brains wihch are able to apprehend, with fear and dread, that makes it so hard for us to just get in and do it.
