Your brick story

Have you ever had a toxic friend? Hurts you, lets you down often... but you can't seem to walk away from the friendship? I'm sick of making the effort- but I feel bad still. Why?

yes, yes I know what you are talking about - I usually think about them as takers rather than givers - they are not good friends to have.....
Not sure what the solution is though - some I have walked away from, others are still with me.

I was in a similar situation. I cut the girl loose and then I did proceed to feel guilty about it for a couple years every time she crossed my mind. Then we ran into each other at a bar, talked for a couple hours and it seemed like we were about to embark on our friendship all over again. The next time I hung out with her she displayed the exact same problem behavior that made me not want to be her friend in the first place.
Life is too short to associate with people who bring you down. If they need support and/or psychological help, then by all means, take that into account and help them find it. But you can't be completely altruistic to the point where it's ruining your own life.
