Your brick story

This is an old poem by Li Bao who wrote during the Tang Dynasty - the image is of the Li River near Guilin in the south - it is a random match - of words that lay gently in my heart and a memory of being on the river and marveling at one of the true natural wonders - of a happier time, of a time when I was an adventurer and was energetic for new life.

And now I find that I have found my own green mountain. Providing I can remain undistracted by that which is really not so important in my life the watching of the blossoms floating away is the only sadness that I need bear.

Clean water , green mountains, fewer people. Look after your green mountain UM
they are becoming rare and endangered . Three years ago we flew over vast patchwork quilt of farms that was in fact today's Europe. Where have the immense forests gone ? I imagine the same could be said of the whole planet- denuded degraded. Beijing with its smog and the encroaching Gobi is just another reminder of what is to come , Cate xx

Does it ever strike you Jo that no matter how much knowledge we acquire we continue to strive for the same kind of understanding as others have for thousands of years? This is such an old poem but it is contemporary for me in terms of what it is saying.

Oh yes I am in a fine place right now - back up slightly from down and not too far up. I am hoping to stay just a little balanced for a while. And when I am I find my senses are better tuned and less capable of picking up all the static. UM xxxxxx

Oh yes. We all still seek the same thing - peace, happiness, a place to belong and be safe. No one can write the book, no one can sing the song, no one can peal the bell, for it all changes always, for each of us.

We who seek, however, are ahead of those who do not know yet that they should be seeking. Sad. Truly, profoundly, sad.

I believe that we journey through this with no purpose, with no goal, with no aim, no end. Therefore, the journey itself is the thing. Therefore, to stop and aid someone, to give up your place, or to offer help, is part of joining your journey to another's journey, and moves you both forward. And that is the purpose, the aim. Simply to be, and to be with others well.

Not the holiday unit, not the designer clothes, not the private jet, private island, the yacht. These all seem good, but are obstacles along the way, unless you use them for joy and share and give to others also.

If we are misers with our lives, we have not spent them, and our journey has not even begun - and maybe will have to be begun again, and again, until we can journey in peace and harmony.

The climbers that left a man to die while they finished their ascent because they were going for a record, were determined not to waste their training and money - what are they seeking? What terrible goal, what inhumane and cruel aim do they aspire to?

The runner that stops to pick up the competitor who has fallen; has won a better, infinitely better, race than the runner who passed the finishing tape first.

Hoping you can continue to see your way forward, and glad that the static is giving you space to breathe.

Yes this is it - and at least my brains trust is sitting with me companionably at this time - I think that is the key for how I can be okay for now. There will never be able to sing a three part harmony though :( so we are listening to more than we are singing but that is good also. UM xx
