  Hi Wolfie and Roze, thanks for the comments. While it's a cliche, I do think that in a way it is better to have loved and lost than never to have experienced that love in the first place. Obviously, it is tragic when things end, don't get me wrong - I am pretty heartbroken, but I guess what I'm trying to say is that I learnt things from being with this guy. He was there for me during some tough times, and now yes, there is a big gap where he used to be, and it has left a hole in my heart and in my life, but at the same time, if I had never met him, my life would be the poorer for it. So there are sweet and bitter feelings right now - and there are days when depression wins over optimism, and then better days when optimism wins. I just hope that the day will come when depression doesn't win any more at all. For anyone else out there who feels the same, just remember that optimism will win in the end. Don't despair, just think of the good times and be glad that they happened.

  That is so wise. I guess for optimism to win out you have to be able to focus on the things that enriched you from a relationship and not the bad stuff - and it helps to be fairly centred in yourself - to know that you will survive. Thanks for this NM - you should be GM - Give Motivation!
