Your brick story

My coach was verbally and emotionally abusive to me. And I know (but can't prove) that some of my students grow up in similar households. Many of my kids are on meds, and when they don't take them they become wild. One of my girls was crying and pouting today, which I don't take well to, and I finally said to her, "STOP CRYING BEFORE I GIVE YOU SOMETHING TO CRY ABOUT!"

Sounds like you were having a bad day? I think the only thing that will bring you a bit of peace is to reconnect with her and just explain that. You don't have to turn out like that old coach of yours - you need to forgive yourself and seek forgiveness of the child too! But be nice to yourself!
