Your brick story

I read in "You're wearing that?" that mothers are less likely to take a "no" as a final answer from their daughters than anyone else. I feel so often like I'm not being heard, that my resistance is just something for her to push past until she gets me to agree/go/relent.

Then she wonders why I don't speak up for myself.

Step by step you can lengthen the apron strings - it will take time, but one day she will recognise you for who you are and she will be very proud.

one of my friends has sucha fite the whole time with her daughter - i am not even sure they likeone another that much

I hope you're right, BWW, but it's taken a long time so far. I should add that I'm over 30. And I completely relate, dorisday-- I want to like her, but I have a time limit before things start going bad. I think she wants to like me, but mostly likes what she thinks I should be and how I'm measuring up to that on that day.
