Your brick story

there's a feeling in me that nothing is going to get better. That the person I'm living with will continue to drain every bit of my energy from me. I love her dearly but at what stage does this mean I have to share in her depression??

Hi lorraine, I don't think I have seen you around The Wall before - welcome.

How long have you been with your partner? How long have you felt this way? Of course you shouldn't share in her depression - but if you can, you need to be there to support her while she finds happiness. Love Wolfie x

Yep, it's so hard. It's never: '...this week it's going to be a good week'. It's always: '...will this week be a good week?'
My biggest fear is that I'll be dragged down the road of depression myself. After all how long can you live with someone and not be affected?

I don't know lorraine, how long can you? how does it affect you? and is it a permanent state of mind for your partner or does it ebb and flow.

I suppose we all have to deal with our partner's emotional baggage - I have a husband that explodes regular as clockwork and then will not speak to me for a week - it's hard isn't it.

It's a state of 'forever and ever'. So it's something that I have to live with. What I'm learning is that I need to be strong enough to say : today I'm going to take care of me..I'm going out, I'm confident that you can get through today.' But, when I do that, and I'm away, I worry that things are ok...sometimes they are, sometimes they aren't.

I think you just talked about something important - keeping a sense of self for you and a little bit of independence from 'the problem' .

I hope you don't mind me asking. Is you partner under the care of someone? other than you?
