Your brick story

I really wish I could be like everyone else and not worry about what others think about me. I really don't know why I care so much. I don't like people looking at me, I don't like talking to more than two people at a time, I get annoyed if anyone draws attention to me. All because I will blush and because I'm worried by what people will think and what they will say. I can't discuss how I feel about this with anyone because I am worried that they will think I'm mad!

No anonymous you aren't mad - or else we all might be! I have similar fears about being amongst people, it is worse when I am anxious and depressed - but it is never really good. I am not naturally a sociable person - but I like people. It's just I get unnerved and I know it relates to a range of experiences that make me feel uncomfortable around others.

Come back and tell me a little more about how long this has been a strong feeling for you. Always happy to listen. UM xxx

Hey unionmaid, thanks for commenting- this is my first brick so I wassn't sure if anyone would! I have been socially anxious since about the age of 12 (I am 27 now)when I started senior school and I always thought that as I got older I would stop feeling this way but I haven't. It is nice to know I am not the only one x

Oh I think you are in good company Anon. Do these feelings of anxiety stop you from doing anything you would really like to do? I ask that because someone asked me that and I realized that I was prepared to push myself into social situations and tough them out. I needed a strategy to help me deal with the anxiety. I guess it is a case of different horses for different courses.

Hey and congratulations on your first brick. I live in Australia so won't be awake for much longer but am happy to keep chatting if you want. Cheers

Hello anon - great brick and a sentiment that is shared by so many I think, to a greater or lesser degree.

I hope that you can take babysteps to improve how you feel in social situations - have you had a look in Useful stuff (the blue tab above) there is something in there about social fear I think.

Sending you lots of confidence and blush free moments...

There is a lot of other "useful stuff" here too isn't there Wolfie - we are so lucky to have this place - and I am always happy to talk also - no pressure here, though, we can all take our own time which is really great for me - so take your time, and talk, and maybe find a place for yourself here, that will help you "out there"
    Love
